ASHRAE HOUSTON MEETING CALANDAR 2010

WORKSHOP
Pinpointing IAQ Nightmares – In Spite of Good Design
Good or bad indoor air quality is not always about the design of an HVAC system. Maintenance, operations, and even occupant activities can all impact a well designed system and create a greater potential for IAQ problems to occur. This presentation will offer background on what air quality investigators look at when investigating sick building syndrome (SBS) complaints. Besides discussing the types of chemicals, particles, and biological contaminants that need to be considered in building design, this program will look at some of the “unusual practices” now occurring in the maintenance, operations, and occupancy of high-rise commercial buildings

LUNCHEON TALK
The LEED Rating System vs. H.T.E. v1.0
Changes continue to occur in the LEED Certification & Rating System. Some changes represent new opportunities, while others are in response to unanticipated issues. This presentation will focus on the environmental side of the LEED Rating system with an indoor air quality perspective on the past, the present, and the possible future of the program.

BIO
Travis West, CIEC, MAC
Travis West is the owner of Building Air Quality, an indoor air quality consulting firm located in The Woodlands, Texas. He has worked exclusively on IAQ issues across the Southern U.S. since 1989. Unlike many of his peers, Mr. West has focused his efforts on identifying and resolving indoor air quality issues in commercial buildings – ONLY. In addition to reactive investigations, which look for the source of ongoing complaints, Mr. West performs numerous ProActive IAQ investigations annually. This involves reviewing and testing buildings that are NOT having problems, on behalf of several asset management companies and real estate investment trusts. Mr. West is a Board-awarded Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant and is licensed as a Mold Assessment Consultant in the state of Texas.
